Large Christopher Dresser Arts and Crafts Brass Firedogs Art Furnishers Alliance
A large and imposing matching pair of brass firedogs designed by Dr Christopher Dresser and likely to be made by Benham and Froud or Chubb & Sons and sold through the Art Furnishers Alliance of New Bond Street London.
Typical of the Egyptianesque/Greek hieroglyphs utilised on Art Furnishers Alliance ebonised furniture, the firedogs present a most intriguing input to the range sold at their showrooms.
Ref: With reference to Harry Lyons & Christopher Morley book 'Christopher Dresser Peoples Designer 1834-1904' figures 143 to 148 and figures 157 to 160, clear design elements and similarities exist for these firedogs in both the Bushloe House and Allangate residences.
Size: 32.5cm high x 26.5cm wide x 20cm deep.
