Extraordinary Jean & Rhys "Taffy' Powell Tempus Fugit Ceramic Tile Clock
An extraordinary large 1960s Jean and Rhys 'Taffy' Powell ceramic mosaic tile clock "Tempus Fugit" with highly stylised vivid red colours and raised sculptural floral motifs.
A scarce and imposing example of Jean Powells work, the tile clock is a true statement of the avant garde designs produced in the 1960s and 1970s.
In outstanding original condition with no damage or repairs retaining its orginal wooden frame and its original working German quartz clock movement, the clock panel is ready to install into the home.
Jean Powell (1926-2021) was a Wales-based ceramic designer. After meeting at Wallasey Art School during the 1940s, Jean and her husband Rhys (Taffy) moved to Denbigh in North Wales. The following decade they found their studio at Craig Bragdy specialising in avant garde tile design reflective of the futuristic designs of the period for both domestic and public spaces.
