Extraordinary & Rare Arts and Crafts James Powell & Sons Whitefriars Vaseline Glass Flower Vase.
An extraordinary, rare and very beautiful large size arts and crafts James Powell & Sons Whitefriars Vaseline glass flower vase or epergne by Harry Powell c1900.
A highly skilled, delicate and technically accomplished example, the unusual twisted clear glass stem is formed from four fused rods and attached to a flared and flattened trumpet form using the 'thrown away' technique and then affixed to a beautiful octagonal petal form base.
The rare vibrant jade green opalescent milky colour utilised is sublime and sets this example apart as a prime example of Powell's artistic and technical achievement, it is a colour we have yet to see where they are usually found in pale blue and yellow colours. It is also very rare to find examples of this type in such a large size with the rare feature of the octagonal form base.
