Arts and Crafts Copper & Brass Jesson & Birkett Jardiniere or Planter with Ruskin cabochons
A superb and most striking architectural Arts and Crafts planished copper and brass jardiniere or planter by Jesson and Birkett inset with four beautiful large Ruskin pottery roundels.
The beautiful simple elegant design is enhanced with studded brass strapwork terminating in large heart or spade form feet, typical of Jesson and Birkett. The elegant strapwork handles are cleverly formed adding to its design appeal.
The jardiniere is hand beaten and formed from good gauge copper and finely planished brass with simulated large rivets, the mottled green Ruskin Pottery roundels are again set in brass mounts with rivets.
A truly wonderful, useful & most rare example for the arts & crafts design purist.
The design is most interesting in that it has evolved from Arthur Stansfeld Dixons log or coal baskets from earlier Birmingham Guild of Handicrafts and is a classic arts and crafts statement piece based on Dixons avant garde architectural principles.
Size: 32.5cm height x 47cm maximum width.
Circa: 1905.
Condition: In superb condition retaining its original patented Jesson & Birkett chemically formulated patina, the Ruskin cabochons are entirely unblemished.
